Minutes

 

 

 

1.         CALL MEETING TO ORDER

President Jason Gregory called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.  Members present were Jarrod Bartlett, Brandt Ditgen, Marcia Kampling, Rusty Slusser and Matt Voth.  Member Van Dewey was absent.  Also present were David Grover, Superintendent; Greg Rosenhagen, CHS Principal; Amy Wallace, CMS Principal; Sherri Conrad, CES Principal; Todd Hague, Activities Director; Jodi Grover, CCR Director and Dawn Hampel, Board Clerk.

           

2.         PUBLIC FORUM

            Parent Nathan Miller addressed the Board regarding safety issues with traffic at the outdoor practice area             adjacent to the transportation building.

 

3.         APPROVAL OR REVISION OF AGENDA

It was moved by Rusty Slusser and seconded by Marcia Kampling to approve the agenda with the addition to the Consent Agenda to move the March 14, 2016 Board meeting to March 8, 2016 as the regularly scheduled meeting is during Spring Break.  Motion carried   6-0

 

4.         APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA

            It was moved by Matt Voth and seconded by Jarrod Bartlett to approve the consent agenda as amended.                  Motion carried   6-0

 

·         August 10, 2015 Regular Meeting

·         August 14, 2015 Special Meeting

·         Payment of bills

·         payment of Bond bills

·         Out-of-District Students

·         Site Councils

·         Moving the March 14, 2016 BOE meeting to March 8, 2016

           

5.         PRESENTATION ON A+ PROGRAM

            Teachers Renee Teague and Ann Asbury discussed the A+ Workshop that was attended by staff at

            Emporia State in June.  They shared a video showing the activities and projects on which they worked.

           

6.         DLR / COONROD & ASSOCIATES REPORT

            Randy Coonrod of C&A discussed the project progress and completion dates at this time.

            Kevin Greischar from DLR Group discussed with the Board the plans regarding the electronic lockdown                     process for the building entrances.  He also reviewed with them the progress on the Baseball Complex as                 well as the specs for the Concessions / Restroom areas and budget.

 

7.         AUDITOR’S REPORT

            Greg Reimer from Busby, Ford & Reimer, LLC presented to the Board their auditor’s report for the 2014-2015             school year.

           

8.         APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION REGARDING THE PROPERTY TAXATION POLICY

            It was moved by Marcia Kampling and seconded by Matt Voth to approve Resolution # 16-0914- 22 regarding             the property taxation policy.  Motion carried   6-0

 

9.         ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS

            Superintendent’s Report:

·         KASB Conference December 4-6 in Wichita

 

            CHS Principal’s Report:

·         ACT Score report

·         Band to go to State Fair on Wednesday

 

            CMS Principal’s Report:

·         Furniture is arriving

·         Technology is coming together

 

            CES Principal’s Report:

·         Construction update

·         Last week was P.R.I.D.E. week

·         STEM training getting set up

·         The effects of the schedule changes

 

            Activities Director’s Report:

·         Friday FB game at Goddard Eisenhower went well

·         Sept 25 game location is unknown

·         Sept 26th Varsity volleyball tournament will be at Cheney

·         Baseball Tomorrow Grant was denied

·         Enrollment count date and school classifications

·         3-A State Golf is Oct 19th

 

            CCR Director’s Report:

·         Cheney is offering over 20 college courses this year from Pratt CC / Newman / WATC

·         10 Pathways were approved for 2015-16 certification

·         Mini Grant – received $4,000 for a banner maker

·         School Government Day is Oct 6th

·         Engineering by Design

           

10.        BOE REPORTS

            Marcia Kampling attended the Special Education meeting in September stating that they passed their                     budget for 2015-16.

            Jason Gregory informed the BOE that he sent a letter to the Goddard school district thanking them for letting             Cheney use their football facilities for home games.

 

11.        EXECUTIVE SESSION

At  10:05 pm it was moved by Marcia Kampling and seconded by Jarrod Bartlett that the Board enter executive session to discuss personal matters of non-elected personnel to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed because if this matter were discussed in open session it might invade the privacy of those discussed that the Board return to open session in this room at 11:05 pm.  Motion carried   6-0      (Present were BOE members and the Superintendent)

           

            The Board resumed open session at 11:05 pm.

           

 

12.        APPROVAL OF JOB OFFERINGS / RETIREMENTS / RESIGNATIONS

            It was moved by Marcia Kampling and seconded by Matt Voth to approve the following job offerings.  Motion             carried     6-0

            Job Offerings:

            Jodi Grover                   Asst. Volleyball Coach

            Bob Linnebur                Bus Driver

            Tina Wright                    CES Part-time Aide

 

            It was moved by Jarrod Bartlett and seconded by Rusty Slusser to approve the following                                            resignations.  Motion carried     6-0

            Resignations:

            Beverly Looslie             Bus Driver

            Jennifer Twietmeyer       Bus Driver

            Carol Watson                Bus Driver

           

13.        ADJOURNMENT

            President Jason Gregory adjourned the meeting at 11:10 pm.
