Essays are made up of three parts:

Ø  Introduction

Ø  Body

Ø      Conclusion

The introduction contains a thesis statement. A thesis statement is the main idea and the writer’s position regarding that topic.

Example of a thesis statement in intro:

Many Americans have unhealthy eating habits.

The body is made up of several paragraphs that support the thesis statement.

Examples of topic sentences in body:

·       The choices in fast food restaurants have replaced balanced meals.

·       Snacking has led to an over consumption of sweets.

·  Failure to eat according to the food pyramid has contributed to unhealthy Americans.

The conclusion restates the thesis and may be a brief summary of some of the main ideas contained in the body of the essay.

Note: no new information is included in the conclusion.

Americans need to change their eating habits in order to develop healthy lifestyles.
