Continuous Learning Plan in Cheney

The target and goalposts seem to be moving by the hour in the state and the nation.  It is certainly true for education in our community.  Leadership has been working non-stop creating a learning plan to the best of our ability with the resources at our disposal. these unprecedented times, it is the District’s intent to provide families with factual information regarding our plans to meet the needs of our students during the building closure. Staff will be returning from Spring Break the week of March 23rd. During that time, principals and teachers will be developing lessons for our students. It is our goal to begin offering continuous learning opportunities to students the week of March 30th. It is our intent to be able to offer meal service to students during the closure, but we are not yet ready at this time to release the details of the program. We will do so as soon as it is finalized.

Our principals are developing a process and timeline for students and families to pick up their personal belongings and medications from schools. It is our intent for this to take place the week of March 23rd.

Our seniors and their families have achieved many great accomplishments during their time in Cheney schools. The district intends to honor the graduating class of 2020. At this time, we do not know a date, time, or location as this will be contingent on guidance from the CDC, KDHE, and the Sedgwick County Health Department. We will continue to update you on our plan for recognition as the situation develops.

Please be mindful of the following:

• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing (cough/sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue). • Please keep sick children at home. • Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.

If you desire additional information about the coronavirus, please visit the links below:

• National Center for Disease Control (CDC) • Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) • Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD)

Again, the District understands the impact a school closure will have on the social and emotional well-being of our students, staff, and families. You can expect the next update from Cheney schools no later than Tuesday, March 24th, 2020. Thank you for your continued support.
