The counseling and developmental services component of the program includes individual counseling, small group counseling and classroom guidance. My goal as school counselor is to work with parents, students and teachers in making the school experience a positive one. Personal-social, educational, and career developmental domains are reflected in each program dimension. A child can be referred by parents, teachers, administrators, community agencies and students. I may also invite a student in for guidance, if changes in behavior or affect are observed. Receiving counseling is voluntary and done with parental consent.
1. Individual Counseling: I provide a setting where students can express their feelings and concerns to promote self-understanding, personal growth and support. A child can be referred by parents, teachers, administrators, community agencies and students. I may also invite a student in for guidance, if changes in behavior or affect are observed. 2. Small Group Counseling: I provide a group setting that gives children an opportunity to discuss common personal issues. The focus of the group is to support, teach and develop coping skills that will help students better manage their personal issues. Some issues that are addressed include: divorce, anger management, self-esteem and friendship skills.
3. Classroom Guidance: I share resources, ideas and strategies with classroom teachers to address specific concerns and problems within the individual classrooms. As the school counselor, I provide additional classroom guidance lessons to address specific classroom and school needs. I teach 30 minute lessons every other week in the classrooms. The lessons will focus on the following guidance curriculum: Self esteem, Accepting Differences, Social Skills, Emotional and Physical Development, Decision-Making, Appreciation for Learning, Study Skills and Career Information
